Alexandra Dawn "Ali" Wong (born April 19, 1982)[2] [3] is an American comedian, actress, and writer,[iv] [5] best known for her critically acclaimed Netflix stand-up specials Baby Cobra and Hard Knock Married woman. She is also known for her leading role in the 2019 film Always Be My Maybe, which she produced and wrote with co-star Randall Park. She was a bandage member on the ABC telly show American Housewife, and has previously appeared on Are You There, Chelsea?, Inside Amy Schumer, and Black Box. She was a writer for the beginning 3 seasons of the sitcom Fresh Off the Boat. Wong too voices title character Roberta "Bertie" Songthrush, a polite songbird and aspiring baker on the critically acclaimed animated serial Tuca & Bertie and new student "Ali" on the striking series Big Mouth.
Wong was included in Fourth dimension 's 100 Virtually Influential People of 2020.[half dozen]
Early life [edit]
Wong was born in the Pacific Heights neighborhood of San Francisco, California, the youngest of four children.[2] [7] Her begetter, Adolphus Wong,[8] was a Chinese-American anesthesiologist who worked for Kaiser Permanente for 30 years. Her mother, Tam "Tammy" Wong, immigrated in 1960 to the Usa from Huế, Central Vietnam and was a social worker.[2] [9] [ten]
In 2000, Wong graduated from San Francisco University Loftier School,[11] where she was student body course president.[12] She enrolled at UCLA, where she majored in Asian American studies and discovered her love of performing as a member of the university's LCC Theatre Company,[thirteen] the state's largest and oldest Asian-American collegiate theater visitor.[14] She spent a summertime working at The Lair of the Gilded Bear, a UC Berkeley alumni summertime family military camp and, during her inferior year, spent time in Hanoi, Vietnam.[2]
She graduated summa cum laude with a BA in Asian American studies in 2005.[fifteen] [16] After higher, she studied in Vietnam through a Fulbright plan.[17] [eighteen] [ disputed ]

2011–2013: Career beginnings [edit]
Later on graduating from higher, 23-year-old Wong tried stand-upwardly comedy at Brainwash Cafe. She presently moved to New York City to pursue comedy, and began to perform upwards to nine times a nighttime.[xix]
In 2011, Variety named her one of the "10 Comics to Watch".[4] Soon later on, she appeared on The Tonight Show, John Oliver's New York Stand Bear witness and Dave Attell's Comedy Underground Show. She was too cast as series regular in the NBC comedy series Are You There, Chelsea? and appeared on Chelsea Lately.[20] Later that, she was in VH1'due south All-time Week Ever and MTV's Hey Daughter in 2013. Additionally, she starred in Oliver Stone's Savages, opposite Benicio Del Toro and Salma Hayek, and as Kate in the film Dealin' with Idiots.[iii]
2014–present: Fresh off the Boat and Netflix [edit]
In 2014, Wong played Dr. Lina Lark in the ABC medical drama series Black Box, opposite Kelly Reilly and Vanessa Redgrave.[21] [22] Since and then, she has guest-starred in several episodes of Inside Amy Schumer. Wong has been a writer on Fresh Off the Boat since 2014.[23] Randall Park, who is on the main cast, had suggested Wong for the writing role.[15]
On Mother's Day 2016,[24] Netflix released a stand-upwards special called Baby Cobra; the special was filmed in September 2015, when Wong was seven months meaning with her get-go child[25] at the Neptune Theater in Seattle.[7] [19] [26] According to New York Mag, "The special's inflow on Netflix is the sort of star-making moment that unites the tastes of the unlikeliest fans."[27] On September 11, 2016, Wong spoke at, and walked the track during New York Fashion Week for Opening Ceremony'due south bear witness.[28] In Oct 2016, Wong began starring in the main cast of the ABC sitcom American Housewife. On May thirteen, 2018, Wong's second Netflix special, Hard Knock Wife, was released. It was filmed in late September 2017 at the Wintertime Garden Theatre in Toronto when she was seven months meaning with her second kid.[29] [30] In 2018, she voiced the grapheme Citrus Twisty, a soda genie, in an episode of OK K.O.! Permit's Exist Heroes.[31]
Wong starred with Randall Park in the 2019 Netflix film Always Be My Maybe, a movie directed by Nahnatchka Khan, and written by Wong, Park, and Michael Golamco. Wong voiced a titular grapheme Bertie in the Netflix animated show Tuca & Bertie. On October 15, 2019, Wong came out with a book entitled Dearest Girls: Intimate Tales, Untold Secrets and Advice for Living Your Best Life.[32] [33] She dubs it as a life guide for her 2 daughters to read when they're adults.[34]
In February 2022, Netflix released her tertiary special, "Don Wong."[35]
Personal life [edit]
In 2010, Wong met Justin Hakuta, son of inventor and Television set personality Ken Hakuta, at a wedding of common friends.[36] Hakuta works as the vice president of product at healthcare startup GoodRx. They married in 2014[37] and have two daughters, Mari and Nikki.[38]
Wong has been open in her standup one-act and to the media virtually miscarrying twins prior to getting pregnant with her beginning daughter. She has stated that joking about her miscarriage helped her cope.[17]
